Irving, Texas, May 24, 2013 – Huntington Hotel Group is proud to showcase the charity events supported by their hotels across the country. It’s clear to see that providing funds and special activities for children and military families is a high priority supported throughout the organization.
The Courtyard by Marriott San Diego Airport Liberty Station received the Courtyard Brands “Community Service of the Year” award for 2011, selected out of 830 hotels. This year, the hotel, along with Homewood Suites by Hilton San Diego Airport Liberty Station donated $805 to the Rady Children’s Hospital from a client open house held in November reported General Manager, Rick Brown. In addition, they participated in Clean the World and donated used guest soap and shampoo to be reformatted to prevent millions of deaths caused by hygiene-related illnesses in third world countries. Since inception, Clean the World has collected and distributed more than 11 million bars of soap to more than 55 countries worldwide including Zimbabwe, El Salvador, Nicaragua, Swaziland, Mali, Mongolia, Uganda, Honduras, and Romania.
Hotel staff, wearing Hilton’s Lewis the Duck costume, visited Smythe Elementary in San Ysidro, CA, which is part of Hilton’s literacy program, to read the latest travel book to children. Smythe Elementary is located just 5 minutes from the border of Baja, Mexico. The classrooms were a bilingual 2nd and 3rd grade. Lewis Goes to Mexico! was read and given to the children. Finally, the hotel donated $374 cash and 10 boxes of gently used linens to Father Joe’s Villages. The cash was collected during their annual associate holiday party.
Courtyard by Marriott San Diego Central participates in charitable events also. General Manager, Juergen Oswald, relayed the details of a Christmas luncheon for single Marines from Miramar, Camp Pendleton, Barstow, and Yuma. Football celebrity, San Diego Charger, Darrel Stuckey, was the guest of honor, spending the evening with the Marines.
Earlier this year hotel employees participated in the 13th Annual Sharon’s Ride.Run.Walk for Epilepsy along San Diego Mission Bay to raise funds. They also volunteered at a charity golf tournament benefitting Rady Children’s Hospital.
